Naan Kadavul - Explores What Slum Dog Millionaire('s) Do Not Dare To !!!

Naan Kadavul (“I am God”) - is everything you would not see in conventional Indian cinema and yet get the romance, inspiration and tantalizing impact a commercial cocktail would give.
The chief entities in this film are aghori Sadhus ; their lifestyle and ideologies; a begging mafia of mammoth proportions and the concept of man emulating God. In fact the interpretation of god itself forms the core idea of the film.

The Backdrop of this film starts off from Kasi - The holy ritualistic city - which is one of the hearts of Hinduism, and it then takes off to South Tamil Nadu - a hub for a begging mafia and the lives of innocent disabled humans stuck in this web.
The core of this film is the astute ideologies possessed by Aghori Sadhus, reflected via the lead’s (Arya's) character and the spirit, spunk and guts possessed by the disabled and downtrodden - in spite of the challenges they undergo.

I would not be covering the story-line in my blog as it is covered in numerous other posts and also due to my lack in ability to recollect connected detail.
This film is a mega effort - it has taken almost 3 years to complete - I gather that the film making started way back in 2006. Bala (Director of this film and maker of Sethu -1999 (Tere Naam ), Nandha -2001 , Pithamaghan- 2004 (Sivaputrudu in Telugu ) ) has stamped his class all over the movie.

The songs are par excellence and for folks, who are not aware of Illayaraja's class, please check out these songs, they sound as timeless as his other masterpieces are.

Specifically listen to "Om Shiva Om" - this song has glimpses of scenes candidly shot during
the Ardh Kumba Mela.

Watch the title song - "Ma Ganga" the rhythm is amazing -

Naan Kadavul is technically amazing, the lighting used for most scenes depict the essence of the story and impart a visual treat. The action sequences are choreographed to impart an extremely natural feel.
Naan Kadavul has no flipsides whatsoever, but I feel a scene were one of the physically disabled child is assaulted on the back could have been deleted, and also some extra aggression in the climax could have been restricted.
My Verdict - Naan Kadavul is a Neo Classic and an Epic in contemporary movie making - This film can be celebrated by one and all - So don't wait : grab this flick in a cinema close by :)

CHak De - CHaD Ke....

This film is a niche combo of a non - stereo type wrapper on a stereotype core.To criticize this film adversely - its a mixture of the numerous Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington, Adam Sandler- team uniting films already made in the west. But this would be a very harsh remark.

Chak De, is a nice step away from recent Bollywood films, the first half see's Shah Rukh as an under-dog, this role looks a bit out of place initially. But his acting shapes up to an acme in the second half, excellent performance by K K, especially before the climax.

A few sarcastic references to playing cricket (politics) have been made, would be interesting ,if the same remarks were made if the Cricket Overtone was still cranking hard in the Indian fan's ears.

I'm not covering the plot here as this is covered in infinite other blogs.

I call this film as having a stereo type core -- as the central focus (apart from Shah Rukh)is on Preeti Sabrewal, the maiden of the film. The whole film essentially revolves around these two,the others fill in - this is not the case in the hollywood team building films, where the focus is not on any individual in the team, although the coach is MR. main focus even in hollywood films.

Capturing the sporting ambiance in Australia and the antics of the hot - tempered yet comical Punjabi hockey player add on to the positives of the film.

Overall a movie definitely worth - watching, would be interesting to count the number of young girls/boys who pick up the hockey stick for the first time from now on. I for one want to pick one up :). We have to wait and see if Chad Ke does something for a longer period. which PHL did for a few weeks.
